Day 3: Science then Monteverde Biological Reserve then Science

Hey Y'all! Thanks for tuning back into the Costa Blog for day 3!

Today was a pretty busy day for us researchers. We got to sleep in this morning until 7:00! We headed to breakfast for some delicious french toast and rice and beans...of course! Following breakfast we headed to the Chachalaca classroom for a morning of science. Our goal for the day was to finish our first objective of the projects we designed yesterday. We finished our first figures by lunchtime to head back to the comedor.

Lunch today was fish and rice, accompanied by re fried beans and salad. Post lunch we headed back to the cabinas to prepare for our afternoon hike. Along the path to the cabinas, we the three of us spotted a seven-foot-long tiger rat snake - NOT venomous, don't worry parents ;).

Then we hopped on the tour bus and headed to the Monteverde Biological Reserve for a nature hike. On our three hour hike, we spotted many more interesting creatures including a tarantula, vine snake, and quetzal, an extremly rare and beautiful bird, one of only 200 in Costa Rica. Our hike ended at the Hummingbird Cafe where we enjoyed iced calibros and bread pudding.

We returned to our cabinas where some of rocked out to a variety of music choices, and other took a siesta (nap). After a half hour break, we headed back to the comedor for a dinner of potatoes and chicken. Dessert tonight consisted of carrot cake and hot chocolate.

We headed straight to the classroom for a couple more hours of science! Most of us completed our first objective by the end of the day, and some of us even got a start on our second! We had a very successful day in regards to our research projects and our wildlife spotting. We are now about to head back to the cabinas and hopefully be asleep by 9:30 :).
